Located in Easton, the Museum is the cultural hub of the Eastern Shore for art, music, and educational programming.  The Museum is accredited by the America Association of Museums, a distinction bestowed on fewer than 5% of U.S. museums.  The museum’s permanent collection includes important paintings by Gene Davis and Anne Truitt as well as drawings, photographs, and prints by artists such as Pierre Bonnard, Robert Rauschenberg, and Martin Puryear.  The Museum also supports a vibrant concert and lecture series that attracts top musicians, authors, and scholars from international talent.

The theatre features showings of the Met Opera in HD as well as world renowned performers offering many different genres of music, comedy, and plays.  It has been affectionately called "Carnegie Hall of the Eastern Shore."

St. Michaels Walking Trail                                                                     
Enjoy an EASY walk through on the St Michaels trail.  Walk down either Chestnut Street or Grace Street and take the trail either way.  This is a very scenic walk past the beautiful water where local fishermen moor their boats and to stroll through local neighborhoods.

BIRD WATCHING AND WILDLIFE

The Refuge was established in 1933 and is comprised of 27,000 acres of mainly rich tidal marsh characterized by fluctuating water levels and variable salinity. It is one of the chief wintering areas of Canada Geese along the Atlantic Flyway.  As many as 50,000 geese, ducks, and tundra swans stop at Blackwater Refuge.  Also, up to 250 species of other birds may also be seen here along with several hundred species of plants, reptiles, and numerous mammals. It is also a haven to the endangered Delmarva fox squirrel, the migrant peregrine falcon, and the American bald eagle. Visitors can hike, bike, or drive to get close to the local wildlife. There are also land trails, paddling trails, and hunting/fishing/crabbing opportunities.

Pickering Creek is a private nonprofit sanctuary of the Chesapeake Audubon Society. You will find 400 acres of protected, hardwood forest, non-tidal wetland, wildlife, plants and nature preserve.  Field trips, canoe rentals and displays are available. There are volunteer opportunities as well as many other programs to enjoy.

The H.M. Krentz built in 1955 by master shipwright Herman Krentz of Harry Hogan, VA and is one of the last commercial sailing vessels that continue to dredge oysters in Maryland’s waters of the Chesapeake during the winter months. Catch a glimpse of the historic Eastern Shore when waterways were a source of power. You will be invited to help the crew and feel the gentle heave of this heavily constructed vessel as the sails fill and she gathers way.  Sailing available daily until sunset, weather permitting.

Patriot Cruises was recently voted the “Best Tour of the Bay” and the #1 Party Event Boat by “What’s Up Eastern Shore Magazine.” An outing aboard the Patriot is a delightful experience for all ages and is handicapped accessible.  This narrated boat ride cruises up the Miles River and back to the St Michaels Harbor. Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum

Hours & OperationsThe CBMM is located on Navy Point at the end of Cherry Street in St Michaels.   Many indoor and outdoor exhibits trace the history and traditions of the Chesapeake Bay are including a historic lighthouse and working boat yard. It is the only museum devoted to interpreting the entire maritime region of the bay.  The Museum hosts many events throughout the year including Big Band concerts, the Antique and Classic Boat Show, the Oysterfest, and many more. The Historical Society of Talbot County’s campus includes a museum, three historic homes, an auditorium and Tharpe Antiques Shop.  The museum offers the “The Craftsmen and the Collector” historic homes tour, a journey through a cabinetmakers shop, a federal-era home, and the ted architect H. Chandlee Forman.  The tour is offered 11:30 a.m. every Friday from April to November.  Tours can be booked at other times with advance notice.  The HSTC also offers walking tours of Historic Easton (self- guided) featuring the historic courthouse to Victorian mansions.  Award winning gardens are open to the public Monday through Saturday as well as a museum store and the Tharpe Antique and Decorative Arts, an antique consignment shop located across the street from the museum at 30 Washington Street in Easton.

Guided tours of St. Michaels are available from May 21st to October at 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays.  These tours will alternate between “Young Frederick Douglass in St Michaels” and Historic St Michaels Waterfront.”  All tours will start from St Michaels Museum at the corner of E. Chestnut Street and St Mary’s Square.  For reservations call 410-745-0530 before 9 p.m. on Friday evening.  Cost is $10/person.

The Oxford-Bellevue Ferry

Established in 1683, the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry is America’s oldest privately owned ferry. Scenic Rt. 333 – Oxford/Rt 329 Bellevue is known as one of the top 25 bicycle routes in the US. Beginning in Oxford at 9 am, the ferry makes continuous crossings every 15-20 minutes until sunset.  Call for exact times.
